Leinster Senior Cup semi-final
The High School Senior 1 girls' hockey team advanced to the semi-final of the Senior Cup having beaten the defending champions Mount Anville. A large crowd of parents and past pupils from both schools gathered to watch an exciting encounter with St Andrew's College on a bright Thursday afternoon. The game lived up to expectations with a high tempo set by both teams from the outset. In the opening ten minutes The High School applied pressure on the St Andrew's College defence and were rewarded with an early one goal lead which separated the sides going into half-time.
The second half commenced with St Andrew's College searching for an equaliser. Their forwards pressurised The High School with great ferocity and began to break forward with speedy counter attacks forcing our defence to work extremely hard to keep them out. However, St Andrew's eventually scored an impressive goal in the latter stages of the second half and we held on to bring the game into extra time. Both teams gave everything in the next ten minutes but could not be separated; the whistle was blown to signal one-on-ones which St Andrew's eventually won 5-4. Thank you to our coaches Ms Jones and Ms Meeke for their encouragement and advice as well as to all members of the squad for their effort and commitment throughout the season.
