Overview
The Guidance Department provides a comprehensive support programme for all our pupils. We assist pupils as they transfer from primary school and support them throughout their secondary education. The Guidance Counsellor's role involves counselling, providing information, educational guidance, career guidance, individual appointments in order to support the personal, educational, and social development of our pupils.The Guidance Team works in conjunction with the Pastoral Care Teams of Year Heads and Form Teachers and we liaise closely with the Senior Management Team of the school. The Career Guidance Class programme is as follows:
Form 4 - Transition Year programme
The Career Guidance module provides pupils with the following:
â— career interest inventories
â— guidance on subject choices
â— information on matriculation requirements
â— information on progression to third level
â— an introduction to the world of work
â— occasional speakers
Form 5
In Form 5 the careers classes guide pupils in their exploration of themselves, their interests, and the world of work. Exercises in class focus on career exploration including researching and presenting a career project. Pupils also prepare for and experience a mock interview in an area of career interest. All the major Universities and Institutes of Technology give presentations to the year group.
Form 6
Form 6 pupils have a career guidance module which facilitates preparation for their examinations and which guides and assists them in their CAO, UCAS, EUNICAS, and other college application procedures. All From 6 pupils have two career guidance appointments in the first term with additional appointments as required.
