Daffodil Day

Thank you very much to all those who helped the Irish Cancer Society by purchasing daffodil pins and badges. Altogether we raised €753, which is €153 over our €600 goal. Thanks very much to Mrs King, our librarian, for organising this very successful event, and also a big thanks to all those who helped to sell the daffodils.

Lunch time concert in aid of CARI

Well done to 3G who organised a lunch time concert in aid of CARI as part of their CSPE action project. Robert Savage reports how the class contacted CARI because of their concern for young asylum seekers needing support.
"We believed that the best way to raise money was to have a lunch time concert in the school which would attract a large crowd. Our year has a band who would play and we also got a band from 5th year to join us. I was very nervous about doing a solo piece singing Johnny Cash's 'Ring of Fire' but seeing how asylum seekers manage being lonely and homesick I decided to overcome my own nerves and go for it. The concert was a great success and we raised over €300 for CARI!

Karate in Tokyo

lan Duggan has been selected to represent the Irish World Shotokan Karate-do Federation (WSKF) at under 16 level in the WSKF World Championship in Tokyo, Japan in August 2007. The competition will be run between the 20th and 25th and lan will participate in two disciplines, Kata (form) and Kumite (fighting). Representing Ireland in two disciplines is not usual and is therefore a great honour for lan.
He is a brown belt having started karate 3 years ago and became the Irish champion in U 16 in March 2007, previously having achieved champion status U 14. This is a major achievement given his age.
lan trains with Ms Leslie Lalor at Highfield Karate Club, Rathgar.
