School Council
Congratulations to the members of the
school council (above) who have been elected
by the pupils of the school. The Head Boy and Head Girl are also
ex-officio members.
The council is elected by the pupils of the school and one of its
purposes is to liaise with the school management about issues which are
of concern to pupils in the daily and annual operation of the school.
The contribution made by council members is greatly valued. The
regulations under which the school council operates include a
stipulation that when an explanation has been given on an issue, that
same issue may not be raised again for two years.
The council also normally engages in a constructive project which
contributes to school life.

Wax-a-thon
Thanks a million to everyone who
participated in the wax-a-thon before Christmas. We raised over €600 in
aid of Focus Ireland, exceeding our original goal by over €200. The
unexpected participation of Mr McBride and Jack Kavanagh were greatly
appreciated as they helped to bring in additional funds. The event was a
great success and a huge thank you is owed to everyone who donated
money, especially to juniors who did not have the opportunity to watch
the event. Thanks again to Andrew Lohan, Andrew Smyth, Max Lane, Robbie
Bannister, Mr McBride and Jack Kavanagh as well as all the girls who had
to wax them.

Horse-riding success
Well done to Alanna Kavanagh and Maoliosa
Nugent who represented the school at the Inter-Schools showjumping event
at Killosery Stud last term. Approximately 30 students from 10 schools
took part in the individual competition. Alanna (Form 1) achieved fourth
place which is very good for a Form 1 pupil.
If there are any other pupils who have ponies or access to ponies and
who would like to compete in other events, please contact Mrs Sadlier in
the office. |

Christmas swim at the forty foot
Well done to all those who took part in
the Christmas swim at the Forty Foot in Sandycove. Over €2,500 was
raised for St Luke's Hospital as a result of your efforts! Thank you to
all who sponsored swimmers.
Support at sports fixtures
Support for matches is an important part
of school life and teams welcome and appreciate genuine support. All of
the major sports organisations demand that schools support at matches
(e.g. cup and league fixtures) should be well-behaved and respectful of
opposition players, supporters and match officials. This school expects
its pupils to cooperate with that policy in the interests of genuine
sportsmanship. Sport is about playing a fair game and respecting the
skills of your opponents.
There is to be no invasion of pitches at half time, no mocking behaviour
in front of opposition supporters on the other touchline, no throwing of
anything on to pitches and no bad language or abusive comments in
chanting. It should be noted that disciplinary action will be taken
against pupils who contravene the above or behave badly in any other way
at sports fixtures. Pupils have previously been suspended from school in
connection with invading the pitch at half time. |
