The Erasmian & Diocesan Times Photography
Competition
This year we are launching a whole school
photography competition sponsored by Dublin Camera Exchange, George's
Street. The winning photographs will be featured in the yearbook and
will be exhibited in the school.
The theme for the competition is to be based on the lyric "we hope you
enjoy the show" taken from The Beatles' song "Sargeant Pepper's Lonely
Hearts' Club Band". Some suggestions include facial expressions, street
performers/buskers, dressing-up/make-up, theatre/concerts, circus,
abstract interpretations, e.g. expressive use of colour or light.
The first prize will be a €50 voucher for the Dublin Camera Exchange and
there will be two runner-up prizes of €25 vouchers for the same shop.
The conditions of entry are that you should submit a photographic print
(no larger than A3) together with a copy on CD, maximum 5 photographs
per person. Entries should be submitted to Ms Killane by Thursday 25
March 2010.

Courtesy to neighbours
You are asked to respect the privacy of
all neighbours and their property. Please do not sit on their walls or
enter their property and please be respectful if neighbours speak to
you. In particular, be aware that Mayfield (just after the junction of
Zion Road and Bushy Park Road on the right) is private property from the
outer gates. The road and the land in front of the houses are not public
property so High School pupils should not enter Mayfield at all unless
they live there or are invited as the guest of a resident.
Past Pupils
Eddie Laycock is a past pupil who was an
international motor cycle champion, winning many TT and other races. He
was a Guinness Book of Records title holder for a while. The Eddie
Laycock Trust is holding a benefit evening (due to Eddie's ill health)
on Saturday 13 February at Citywest Hotel featuring dinner, dancing,
entertainment, auction, TV personalities etc. For tickets contact

Financial help for 3rd level
The Department of Education & Science has
asked us to inform all Form 6 students of the website
www.studentfinance.ie
which is a comprehensive guide to college tuition fees, grants
and financial supports, including information about free fees, student
maintenance grants, funds for students with disabilities, the student
assistance fund and third level scholarships.
East Leinster cross-country championships
A wet and challenging course provided a
tough assignment for 44 runners who travelled from the school to
Avondale on 4 February. All gave their best as the course became muddier
with each race. Well done to Patrick O'Hare of 2WH, who completed the
junior boys race having recovered recently from a broken leg! The best
performer on the day was Michael Treacy (4) who won the Intermediate
boys race by about fifty metres. The senior boys team won silver medals
with four finishers in the top 20: Bill O'Cleirigh (4th), Neal Hickey
(6th), Colm Moran (17th), and David Kernan (20th). Senior girls Aisling
Naylor (10th) and Katie O'Brien (13th) qualified for the Leinster
finals. Well done to all who competed the good luck to those who now
progress to the Leinster finals. P. Irwin
