sM*A*S*H* hit!
What a completely professional performance this was! From the lighting to the sound to the pre-show performance, everything was done with a great deal of skill and finesse. All this would of course have meant nothing if the actors couldn’t perform their characters but all the cast knew their parts well and there were no agonising pauses as lines were forgotten. The real seller for me was the degree of energy they played their parts with, all of them seeming to love what they were doing. Highlights for me personally were Hugh’s Hawkeye, Kim’s "Hotlips" Houlihan and Scott’s Boone Scott even went so far as to draw from personal life experiences to perfect his part. One minor grumble from some of the audience was that the play had no main plot, just an assortment of sub-plots, but they just didn’t get it. The play wasn’t supposed to be an epic drama, it was supposed to be a fairly realistic story of a group of people living in terrible conditions and trying to make the most of it. All the cast and crew’s hard work was hugely appreciated by the audience and by each other, especially Michael’s, Ms. Fitzgerald’s, Mr. Timoney’s and Ms. Milne’s, who said it was the only play she has directed which received a standing ovation. If it was still on I would tell you to go and see it now, but it’s over so if you didn’t go you missed your chance. Ronan Kenny

Army lifeFor my work placement in November, I was lucky enough to be accepted by the Army Equitation School. This is situated in McKee Barracks in the Phoenix Park. The director of the school is Lt Col Gerry Mullins, who was a famous showjumper and competed on many Nations Cup teams. I could ask the officers questions about becoming a cadet. Training is 21 months, and takes place at the Curragh Camp. You have to pass 4 interviews, before you can get in to the school. I was shown around the Barracks, and saw the weaponry and army vehicles- tanks, armoured jeeps etc. The officers were very friendly and I enjoyed my week with them. I might consider a career in the army, but it is a tough life but is worth it in the end. Gorgi Hill- 4G Careers seminarA week ago, a few pupils from 4th and 5th years went to a careers seminar in St Vincent's University Hospital. The day started at 9.40 a.m. Many people in different areas of work around the hospital came to speak to us on a wide range of different possible careers. Then we were broken up into groups of five or six and shown around the hospital. The day ended at around 2.30 p.m. We all found it to be both informative and enjoyable.
