Orchestra wins Inter Schools Music Festival

Congratulations to the members of the orchestra, leader Robert Farhat, and to their conductor, Ms M. White, on their victory in the Inter Schools Music Festival on Saturday. Against serious competition from Belvedere College, John Scottus School, Wesley College, Loreto St Michael's Navan and Kilkenny College, their masterful performance of Dvorak's Slavonic Dance won them first place and the Kenevey Cup. The adjudicator, Gavin Maloney, conductor of the RTE National Symphony Orchestra, was extremely complimentary about the balance of the orchestra's sections, their level of expertise and the rounded confidence of the performance. Well done also to Robert Farhat who won the Over 16 piano competition and the Robertson Cup.

1st Year meet Aubrey Flegg

On World Book Day Aubrey Flegg came to the school and gave a talk to 1st Year who had all read his book "The Cinnamon Tree". He showed us how to get ideas for writing books and how to construct a book. He showed us pictures and gave an interesting talk on his time in Africa and how dangerous it was with landmines and bombs from the war which is the plot of "The Cinnamon Tree". I enjoyed being a millionaire for a second or two when Mr Flegg gave us a 1,000,000 kwansa note. I think we all enjoyed his visit.     Sam Lunn 1R
