Ty trip to Slovenia
On Monday 6 April, 46 Transition Year
students gathered at 4:45 a.m., tired but excited for the week ahead.
We flew to Munich where we met our tour guide Matt, then left the
airport and began the 5 hour bus journey through the spectacular
Austrian Alps .one of the highlights of our journey was our lunch in a
very fancy Mc Donalds complete with red carpet and kids fun gym! We
arrived in Bled, Slovenia that evening where we checked in and had
dinner. That night we walked to Lake Bled, which was lit up and looked
beautiful.
The next day we had a tour of the surrounding area of Lake Bled and a
castle that overlooked the lake - an amazing view. After lunch Matt gave
us a tour of Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, and then on to the
Postojna caves, the biggest in Europe! These were amazing and that night
we went swimming.
On the Wednesday we visited Croatia for the day, with a guided tour of
Zagreb, its capital, and we also had some free time. That night we went
ice skating. Some of us started off a little unsteady but all mastered
it in the end.
We rose early on Thursday to catch a train into the Julian Alps. The
scenery was breathtaking. We spent the day in the Alps, visiting a
lovely church up a hill. We even had a snowball fight on our way home!
The day was great and we saw the biggest ski jumps in Europe. We went
bowling that night.
We got up even earlier on Friday, packed our bags and headed for Venice.
It took 4 hours to get there but it was worth it! We spent the day there
and had a tour of a Venetian glass works. This was amazing as it
requires such skill. After spending the day in Venice we then went to
catch our flight home.
We would like to thank Mr. Wright for organizing a great trip but
unfortunately he couldn't go at the last minute. Helen Kane (office!)
kindly stepped in. Thank you to Ms.White, Ms Goulding, Ms Kane and Mr.
Levis for coming with us. Everyone really enjoyed the trip! (thanks
again)

Second year ski trip
On Sunday 5 April, twenty seven second
years with Mr Flynn, Mr McBride, Ms Jones and Ms Lanigan, flew out to
Norway for a week of skiing.
When we arrived in Olso we got a bus that took about 2 hours to bring us
to our hotel, the Birkebeineren Hotel. It was a nice hotel and three
other schools were staying there as well – two English schools and
Fourth Years from Portmarnock. The ski resort we went to was used for
the Winter Olympics in 1994. It was twenty minutes away and we left
every morning at 8.45 am.
We were split into three groups – beginners, intermediate, and advanced,
and there were four snowboarders. We had lessons from 9.30 – 11.30, then
we went for lunch and free ski until 1 pm when we had lessons to 3 pm.
The bus then left at 4 pm and we had dinner at the hotel. Each night we
did something different, like DVD night, tobogganing, cinema, bowling,
and a disco with the other schools. The tobogganing was held in the ski
resort and was so much fun.
The weather was mostly hot and sunny, one or two of the days it was
foggy and snowy.
The skiing was amazing, and we all loved our ski instructors! Everyone
improved a lot by the end of the week and really enjoyed the trip. We
were all sad leaving - the week went by too fast! Lillehammer would be a
great choice for future trips.
Thanks to all the teachers for organising the trip. We all had an
amazing time.
