Our Visit to the Winter Wonderland of Berlin
Wir sind am 14. Februar nach Berlin
geflogen.
gehabt.
The above is an account of our school
trip to Berlin. We learnt a lot about Berlin’s history and culture
through tours of historical buildings like Friederich Der Groâe’s
palace. We were lucky enough to have our own personal tour guides in the
teachers who accompanied us as well, especially Mr. Giles whose vast
knowledge of Berlin’s history and his enthusiasm for the city made the
trip even more special. This trip of second to fifth years was an
incredible experience with people from different years getting to know
each other and visiting a fascinating city which was a lot of fun as
well! We practised our written German every evening writing in our
journals (Tagebücher). Ice skating, our trip to the cinema and bowling
were among the highlights of the trip but a brilliant memory from the
trip was Mr. Giles joining in on one of our frequent snow fights. We’d
like to thank the teachers on the trip for organising it and making it a
wonderful trip for everyone, Papa Giles our tour guide, Onkel Weiâ our
enthusiastic tourist and Schwester Goulding our own personal matron
complete with first aid kit. Thanks for everything!

All Ireland success
At the Irish schools mountain running
championships on Wednesday 25 March, the High School intermediate boys
team represented the school with courage and commitment. The team
consisted of Michael Treacy, Thomas Wyse Jackson, Colm Finlay and
Matthew Holder. First home for High School was Michael Treacy who was
third in a close finish and took the bronze medal. Michael has been
selected to represent Ireland at the World Mountain Running
Championships in Germany in June. Congratulations!
Cancer research and care fund raising
Congratulations to all who participated
in the fun swim before Christmas and in the Andrew McKay memorial hockey
tournament. A total of €3,000 was presented to Deirdre Hughes from the
Friends of St Luke's Hospital by Rona O'Donnell and Alice
Somers-Donnelly. This money is used for the purchase of vital equipment
and the provision of care accommodation which is not properly funded by
the HSE. The school has a long fund-raising relationship with St Luke's
which is situated in Rathgar and we hope to continue that into the
future.
