Habitat for Humanity work camp
On 31 March after many months of hard
fundraising we finally left Dublin for Romania. Despite a long day of
missing flights, being split into different planes and lost luggage, by
that night we were all reunited in Romania. We spent a day sightseeing
in Bucharest and the next day took a seven hour train through Romania to
our final destination Radauti. There we spent the next few days digging
house foundations, making wire supports and insulating houses. We also
got to visit a local school, meet the local people, visit an Orthodox
Easter ceremony and sample some "traditional" Romanian food.
On behalf of all who went on the trip, I would like to thank everyone
who generously supported us in our fundraising efforts and the teachers
who gave up their holidays to go on the trip with us.
Ellen Ní Cléirigh (5)
(I would like to add my own congratulations and thanks to the pupils who
with the staff raised over €40,000 to build these houses and then did so
much hard work while they were there - B.T. Duffy, Principal)
Habitat for Humanity trip 2008
There will be another trip taking place
next Easter. A short information meeting will take place for interested
students on Thursday this week in B2 at 12.50 for the current Form 3 and
at 1.30 for the current Form 4. If you are interested in applying for
permission to go on the trip you must attend the appropriate meeting.

5th Year Mock Interviews
On the 24th April, 120 nervous students
attended their Mock Interviews arranged by the Parents’ Association. We
would like to thank them all, especially Angela Harding, for all the
hard work put into the organisation. We would also like to thank the
teachers for the use of their rooms and the interviewers for giving up
their valuable time. The students all enjoyed the interviews and found
it was a very worthwhile experience. Some of the feedback from the
students included: “I felt that my preparation was really beneficial as
it is vital to know about your chosen career path, and it helped my
confidence, as I knew what I was talking about”. “I thought the
evaluation was the best part for me, as the interviewers gave me loads
of advice about other possible careers in the same field but which might
be more appealing to me”.
Everyone agreed that dressing smartly, maintaining eye contact, and
relaxing during the interviews were key elements to a successful
interview. Finally, thanks to all of our careers teachers who helped us
prepare for the interviews.

Shakespeare's birthday in the library
A great day was had at the library on
Monday 23 April when Shakespeare's 443rd birthday was celebrated. The
library was a hub of activity featuring many attractions including a
challenging quiz on the life of the playwright, a screening of the Baz
Luhrmann directed "Romeo and Juliet" and a small production by 2T of the
balcony scene from the same play. Undoubtedly the most popular was the
marvellous birthday cake which was feverishly wolfed down by all.
Special praise must be given to Aisling Barry who decorated the
scrumptious cake which ornately depicted a scene from "A Midsummer
Night's Dream". |

Everyone enjoyed the day very much and on
their behalf I would like to thank Mrs King and Ms Milne for all their
hard work. As the great bard said himself "With mirth and laughter let
old wrinkles come".

All Ireland Quiz
The High School quiz team won its
quarter-final match recently in Athlone. This match will be aired on RTE
Radio 1 on Saturday 12 May at 6.00 p.m. Congratulations to the team
members Beth Kelly, Evan O'Callaghan, Tom Roseingrave and Mark Horgan.
NCAD place - well done!
Congratulations to Faye Simms who has
achieved a place in the National College of Art & Design for 2007. These
places are much sought after and second level students are also in
competition with third level students for them, so it is a great
achievement. One of Faye's pictures is reproduced
