St Andrew's College One Act Play successes - well done!
Congratulations to the whole cast and production team but especially to the award winners Davey Kelleher (Runner-up, Best Actor), Joelle Grogan (Certificate of Merit), Eoin Silke (Young Playwright overall winner), Hannah Jennings (Certificate of Merit), Jake O’Brien (Best Actor) Many thanks to Niamh Sleator and Zoe McNair, who helped with costumes and props, and to Ms Fitzgerald and Ms Missen, who directed. The review of the play was published last week. Trocaire FastThis year, Trocaire are asking students to participate in their fast to support work in countries such as Sudan in Africa. A great deal of attention has already recently been focused on the tragic events in Southeast Asia. However, it is important to remember that Africa needs continued support. The equivalent of a tsunami every fortnight happens in Africa where over 150,000 people die from a range of diseases including AIDS. The funds from the 24 hour fast will be used in 55 of the poorest countries in the world. Last year, the fast raised €1.5 million, with €600,000 of this raised by schools. High School raised a generous €674. We would like to thank those who participated in the fast last year and encourage as many people as possible to participate this year. The fast takes place on Friday 4 and Saturday 5 March and sponsorship cards are available from Ms O'Connor. Form 5 practice interviewsThe interviews for Form 5 students will take place on Tuesday 12 April commencing at 7.30 p.m. We are delighted to have 96 preliminary applications which demonstrates the enthusiasm of the students for this important event. We would like to compliment Ms Jones and her guidance colleagues for their great work. It is important that students follow through with the process and we are looking forward to receiving 96 well prepared CVs prior to interview day. On behalf of the Parents' Association, I would like to thank all parents and friends who have offered their time and services as interviewers. We will be trying as much as possible to match their skills with the career choices of the students. We would also like to thank Mrs Gillis and the catering staff, and Mr Davis and the caretaking staff for their help in making this a successful evening. Bill McConnell, Parents' Association Senior girls basketball team reaches final! The astounding High School Senior Girls’ Basketball Semi-Final took place on Tuesday 22 February in Holy Child, Sallynoggin. At the end of the first quarter, after a superb 3-point shot from Sallynoggin, the score was even at 6-6. We kept the lead throughout the 2nd and 3rd quarters but Sallynoggin fought back in the 4th quarter, leaving only 2 baskets in the score difference. However, with plenty of determination, good teamwork, and some beautiful free throws by Julie Kavanagh, we ended the game in triumph at 47-37. The league final against Ballinteer is to be held on Monday, 14th March, in the Arena, and we hope you’ll give us all your support. Ruth Roseingrave Music successCongratulations to Robert Farhat on his continuing spectacular musical career. Recently Robert has performed at the invitation of the Scottish International Piano Competition, in the Permanent TSB High Achievers concert in Dublin and at Aras an Uachtarain for President McAleese and her guests. He has also played at the Helix with the National Youth Orchestra and in the National Concert Hall with the Dublin Youth Symphony. In between all of this and with his hectic practice schedule, Robert spared the time to raise no less than €2668 for Oxfam by busking in the St Stephen's Green Centre! Well done!!
