Junior girls reach cup final!

Congratulations to the Junior A who beat Alexandra 1-0 in their cup semi-final recently. This was likely to be a close game as both sides had progressed through their respective sections unbeaten. So it turned out, with the sides very evenly matched, both attacking and defending with great vigour. However, it was High School who made the breakthrough late in the first half with Sara Lodola finishing off a smartly taken short corner. There was then a period of strong defence from High School, particularly from Katie Smith and Jessie Elliott, to keep Alex at bay. With the sound of the final whistle, there was great relief and triumph that we had progressed to the final of the Leinster Junior Cup for the second year running.

At present, it appears that the final will be played at 2.00 p.m. on Tuesday 9 March, although this remains to be confirmed by the Leinster committee. Tickets for buses will be on sale and there will be an entrance charge to the ground. Full details later. Please support the Junior cup final!! It is a great achievement to get there!!! Well done girls!!!!

"The Hall of Healing"

High School's one act play, "The Hall of Healing", by Sean O'Casey, was performed in the St Andrew's One Act Play competition on 11 February. The play was set in a doctor's surgery in inner city Dublin, focusing on the ailments and afflicitons of the various patients. Although the stage had a simple layout and the play itself was one continuous scene, our attention never drifted. Each character, no matter how large or small their part, conveyed their emotions and actions brilliantly.

The judges' comments on the night of the play were very positive. They praised the high quality of the acting, in particular Scott Hanan and the belching doctor, Davey Kelleher, who incidentally were the only two actors mentioned by name in the review of the plays that night. They especially admired "the strong feelings of helplessness [of the patients]" and stressed the sense of teamwork evident among the cast.

On the final night, High School won two certificates of merit for the "wonderful" double act of Scott and Davey "the burp that could stop traffic" Kelleher. The judge congratulated Scott on his excellent interpretation of the "spidery character" Alleluia. Unfortunately, we couldn't hear the rest of what was said in praise of Scott over the tunderous applause and cheering at the mention of his name! We thought the entire production was excellent and a credit to all involved. Congratulations to Ms Fitzgerald and the entire cast and crew.

JCT go out to strong Pres. Bray

The JCT played their quarter final Leinster cup match against Pres. Bray at Stradbrook last Wednesday. We had a terrible start, conceding an unconverted try and two penalties within the first twenty minutes. We rallied well and were camped in their 22 for the entire second half. However, the scores failed to arrive, very often the final pass going astray. The team would like to thank Mr Griffin, Johnny Ellis, Alan Hilliard and Alex Mullen for their incredible work this year and also the pupils, teachers and parents who have attended our matches.

Andrew Lohan, captain

(Note - the JCT is still in the Father Godfrey cup and will be playing Newbridge next week - please support.)
