Prize Day
Prize Day took place recently. The guest
speaker was David Went, Chairman of the Board of The Irish Times and
former CEO of Irish Life and Permanent. In an entertaining speech he
mentioned the importance of achieving one's potential in life and spoke
about the enormous improvement in school facilities since the days when
the school was located in the city centre.
The Principal spoke about the outstandingly successful year which the
school had experienced last year, pointing to the extremely wide range
of successful activities, trips etc. while also congratulating Form 6
and the staff on producing the best ever Leaving Certificate results in
the history of the school. Welcoming Mr Went, the Principal also spoke
of the quality of The Irish Times which he considered to be one of the
best balanced English language newspapers in the world and thanked Mr
Went for taking up his new role as Chairman of the Board of the
newspaper.
Choir and orchestra performances were greatly enjoyed and everybody
adjourned for supper in the dining hall afterwards.
Thanks to everybody who helped to prepare this occasion - grounds and
caretaking staff, office staff, catering staff, teaching staff,
prefects, etc. Particular thanks to Ms Saville who organises the Prize
List and gathers the prizes with Mrs King's assistance.
Record number of Entrance Exhibitions to TCD
Congratulations to no less than nine
pupils who have received Entrance Exhibitions into TCD based on the
excellence of their Leaving Certificate results - Robert Farhat, Nick
Fitzpatrick, Amy Hughes, Niamh Kenny, Hanah Mesallati, Evanna Mills,
Sinead Nolan, Christine Rorke, David Whyte.
Operation Christmas Child
Each year a group of fourth year students
get involved in Operation Christmas Child. This year we had a huge group
of people interested in making a difference for other kids at Christmas,
who are not as lucky as us. Mr Irwin arranged various meetings for us
and also organised a few small groups of people to go to the Samaritans
Purse warehouse on assigned days to help sort the shoe boxes full of
presents. I really enjoyed helping out and making a difference. Thanks
to Mr Irwin for making this possible and to everyone who got involved or
who prepared shoeboxes. As the visitor from Samaritans Purse told us,
these gifts are usually the first gifts a child has ever received.
