IRFU takes stand against supplements
In response to the growing trend of schoolboys taking
dietary and other supplements as part of their preparation to play rugby
and other sports, the IRFU has issued the following statement, the
content of which would be normal policy in this school already:
-
Young rugby players should focus on good eating
and drinking practices to support optimum performance. Fact sheets
to support this are available through the IRFU website
www.IrishRugby.ie
-
The use of protein supplements should not be
recommended by schools, coaches, teachers or others involved in the
training of young rugby players.
-
The IRFU strongly advises against the use of
nutritional ergogenic aids, in particular creatine.
The message therefore is - good, balanced diet,
plenty of water, quality training, no supplements. |
Form 5 study skills course
The visiting lecturers for the seminar on Saturday
were very impressed with the response from the students, along with
their hard work and good manners. Well done to all concerned!

Senior girls hockey team through to
quarter-finals
Well done to the senior girls hockey team which faced King's Hospital
in the second round of the Leinster Schools Cup last Wednesday. They
started the match well with a goal from open play scored by Valerie
Sexton in the first five minutes. Staying on top for most of the first
half, they were rewarded with a short corner goal from Ali Meeke just
before half time. Despite some problems in the second half, the team
finished with a convincing 3-0 win and will now play in the quarter
finals on Wednesday 6 February. |

1st XV go out to Roscrea
The game was played in Tullamore, Co. Offaly where we
encountered some severe weather conditions. The lighter High School pack
played magnificently in the first half, disrupting the opponent’s
lineout and scrum. However, the back line found the conditions tough to
play an expansive game. The score was 0-0 going into the second half
when two Colin Sheridan penalties put us ahead by 6 - 0. Roscrea replied
with a well struck penalty to reduce the deficit. It was not until the
last minute that Roscrea bowled over the try line to leave the score
8-6. Needless to say, this gave us little time to regain the lead in
spite of some tremendous efforts. We would like to thank our supporters
for enduring such a long trip in such bad weather.
