Changes in catering

The High School has always been well known for the excellence of its catering department, but in recent years we have been improving it even further. The totality of the food on offer in the school has been analysed from a health and nutrition point of view and many changes have been made over a period of time to modernise our services and to offer products which are healthy, convenient and popular.
There are essentially three options for dining - pupils can bring their own food from home and tables are provided in the Reynolds Hall for them; there is now a sandwich/buffet stand and there is also a full lunch available. At the small break, a limited number of items are sold to ensure rapid progress through the queues.
The sandwich bar menu includes filled rolls (€2.20), ciabatta (€1.80), wraps and baps (€2.20), panini (€3.00), sandwiches (€1.50), Cuisine de France petit pain, sausages, soup, bagels etc. Fruit is available to purchase, drinks include mineral waters, Ribena, Capri Sun, Yops, Petit Filous, milk, yoghurt, etc.
Main courses in the dining room include chicken curry with rice (€2.20), bolognaise (€1.80), pasta (€1.00), baked potatoes (€1.50 or €1.80 with filling), salads (€1.50), chicken fillet (€1.20), spring rolls (€0.80), beans (€0.50), chips on Mondays (€1.20).
In addition, there is now a Fairtrade dispensing machine which contains a variety of healthy, Fairtrade foods. All of the tea and coffee served is also Fairtrade. We are all very grateful to Mrs Gillis and her staff for all the effort they have put into the reforms and for ensuring we are all well fed every day!!

Valentine's Post

Every year in High School round about early February, there is suddenly a little more love in the air then usual. Students get the chance to enjoy a little romance and also support a very worthy cause. This year, the Valentines Post raised over €500 for ISANDS. ISANDS stands for the Irish Stillbirth and Neo-Natal Death Society and it provides help, information and often just a person to talk to, for the families affected by stillbirth and infant deaths.
Its important to say a huge big thank you Medcon Construction, AM PM in Rathgar and The World newsagents in Terenure for their sponsorship. Thanks are also due to Miss Graham for her help, Head in the Clouds for their beautiful cards, the forth year craft class and Ms Killane, all the girls in fourth and fifth year who made it happen, and of course everyone in High School who took part in the Post and helped to spread the love.

Under 13s defeat St Andrew's

The boys under 13 hockey team played a very impressive match against St Andrew's A team on Wednesday 22 February, defeating them 10-1. The captain, Lee Deighton, scored an impressive four goals. Other goal scorers include our star centre back and vice-captain, Cillian McCann with one goal and Ferdia O'Brien with two. Newcomer Niall O'Leary scored a brilliant debut goal and goals were also scored by Alan Hughes and Ian Stevenson. The team played exceptionally well and are getting better as the days go by.

Junior A cup semi-final

Last Friday, the Junior A Girl’s Hockey Team faced Loreto Beaufort in the semi finals of the cup. It was a great match with many fine performances from both teams. On the day Beaufort had the edge, winning 2-0 despite High School putting up a stiff opposition. However, we did not give up until the last whistle blew. I am very proud of the team for the effort they put the whole season and would like to thank Ms.S. Jones for being a great coach. And also thanks to all the spectators for the support they have given us throughout the season.
