T.Y. Kerry Trip
As part of our President’s Award (Gaisce),
a group from Transition Year completed a venture activity in the
Macgillycuddy Reeks last week.
We left High School at 2pm on Thursday afternoon, made a quick stop in
Limerick for food supplies and arrived at our hostel that evening at
8pm. Early the next morning we drove to Carrantuohill and after a couple
of hours walking we reached the Devil’s Ladder which was a steep climb.
We stopped for lunch shortly after that and when we were ready we
continued to the top of the mountain.
The top of Carrantuohill was impressive with far reaching views and a
large cross. On our descent we took a route called the Angel’s Path
which was a narrow trail down the side of the mountain. Nearing the end
of the path we came across the Heavenly Gates which was a boulder
followed by a steep descent.
At the bottom of the gates we found a rescue shelter, and after minutes
of marvelling at it, we continued to the bottom of Carrantuohill.
On behalf of the participants I would like to thank Mr. Cryan, Mr.
McNamara, Ms. Rellis and Mr. Flynn for their time and assistance.

Ski Trip 2010
On Sunday 28th March a group of 2nd Years
and 4th Years arrived in Dublin airport at Sam. We flew to Milan airport
in Italy and then took a bus to Sauze d’Oulx, in the Italian Alps, and
to our hotel, the Gran Bosco.
The first day of our ski school we were put into our groups with our
instructors. Each day we improved at skiing because of the lessons we
were receiving and some of us even tried black slopes, which were really
scary!!
Each night there was a different activity organised for us such as DVDs,
football, table tennis, arcades, a table quiz and even karaoke, which
was great fun.
After all the sunny weather, soft snow and a final April Fools joke on
Mr. Flynn, it was time to leave Italy. Waking up at dawn again and
travelling back to Dublin, we bought some souvenirs (mainly Italian
chocolate!) in the airport and arrived back in Dublin at midday on
Easter Sunday, just in time to enjoy our Easter eggs! We would like to
thank all the instructors and Gordano, our Italian guide, for helping us
during the week and finally to all the teachers who generously spent
their holidays trying to get us to go to sleep, Ms Jones, Ms Lanigan, Mr
Flynn and Mr. McBride.

Congratulations!
Congratulations to John Swanwick 2Q, who
entered his project on Garden Biodiversity and Bird Feeders in the
SciFest 2010 competition held in Dublin Institute of Technology
recently, winning 1st prize in the category. Also to Leanne McDonnell on
being selected to play for the Irish U/16 Basketball Team in the
European Championships. This is a huge achievement for Leanne and
everyone wishes her the very best in her international games.
False charity collections
For a while now, false door to door
charity collections by teenagers have been taking place in areas within
a couple of miles of the school. The names of this and other schools
have been used and counterfeit headed documentation has been produced.
We never authorise door to door collection. If such a person comes to
your door, please refuse politely and then call the Gardai immediately,
noting the appearance of the caller(s) but not raising suspicion among
them. This is, of course, criminal activity of a particularly
distasteful nature and undermines the superb efforts made by so many
young people in Dublin to support genuine charities.
Sports uniform change for boys 2010-11
Next year, following a request by the
Student Council, rugby jerseys sold by our suppliers will be crested.
Also, a crested red polo shirt will be compulsory sports kit, available
