Prefects 2003-04

Congratulations to the pupils who have been elected Prefects for the year 2003-2004

The system of election for prefects is that they are voted into office by their own year group and the staff, subject to the approval of the Principal. The Principal invites those who have reached the qualifying level of votes to consider the responsibilities and duties attached to being a prefect and confirms appointments in August.

Appointment to the position of Head Girl or Head Boy is at the discretion of the Principal. The votes cast in the prefect elections are taken into account as well as the opinions of senior staff. In choosing candidates for these positions, the Principal looks for leadership qualities, organisational abilities and high personal standards.

Scholarship to Maynooth NUI

Congratulations to Claire Murphy (Form 6 last year) who obtained a scholarship worth €1,000 into NUI Maynooth on the basis of the excellence of her Leaving Certificate results. We will publish scholarship results for other colleges as the information becomes available.

Form 1 cross-country championships

There was a good turnout for the championships on Wednesday 17 September. Some students came out to compete for medals while others just wanted to test themselves and to see if they could complete the one mile course.

In the boys race 22 out of 23 starters completed the course. One student who gave himself the added task of running with his school bag on his back gave up after half a mile due to the warm weather. The winner of the race was Jamie Ryan, with John Willoughby a close second after a sprint finish.

There was a smaller field in the girls race but all participants finished the course. Eva Richardson came home first, well ahead of the rest of the field. Well done to all who participated!

In the girls race, the gold medal was awarded to Eva Richardson, the silver to Aisling Coghlan and the bronze to Katie Murphy. In the boys race Jamie Ryan won the gold, John Willoughby the silver and Mark Savage the bronze.
