Rollback

Rollback is one of the most accomplished rock bands to have been formed at The High School in many years. They are pictured above on one of the days on which they played one of their own songs ("Girl on the Ground") in assembly recently. Their music is bright, lively and melodic rock and their performances are tight, entertaining and well organised, providing a suitable vehicle for the undoubted musical talent of each member of the band. The band was formed about two years ago and they practise in one member's house. They declare U2 and The Strokes as influences but this writer reckons they have their own distinctive sound. Because they are not all over 18 yet they find it difficult to get gigs, so anyone who knows where they would be welcome, please let them know!

Parents Association

Alan Browning (right) has been elected as the new President of the association. The full committee is listed on the website along with details of how to contact them

Free reflective gear

LUAS is currently running a pedestrian safety campaign, giving away free reflective armbands. To see the campaign material and get your free armband you can log on to luas.ie or ring Freephone 1800 300 604.

As the days darken, all pupils please be aware of the need to be seen - wear an armband or harness and have the reflectors and lights working properly on your bicycle. Arrive alive!

Prize Day and Parents' Evening

Prize Day and Parents' Evening will take place on Wednesday 24 October at 8.00 p.m. (please be seated by 7.50 p.m.). This year, the guest speaker will be Dr Peter Wyse Jackson, director of the National Botanic Gardens. There will also be performances by a choir and by the orchestra.

The parents of prize winners will have received a written invitation but other parents and pupils are also welcome to attend. If you would like to come, please telephone the office so that we know how many to expect. Supper is served afterwards. Pupils attending must wear full winter uniform, including school jumper.

World Poetry Day

On 4 October Ms Fitzgerald's English class went down to the library to celebrate Poetry Day. Poems were read out and there was a colourful display of poems around the room. I would like to thank Mrs King and the Library Committee for doing a wonderful job in the library and for spending so much time organising it all. Aislinn Twamley

German trip

Mr White's Form 3 German class (right) recently visited the Goethe Institut and the Bretzel Bakery near Portobello. Below is an account of the visit in German.
