Music concert a huge success

The orchestra and many soloists played to a full house last Thursday in a much appreciated concert. The following soloists performed: Aisling Bridgeman, Alex Dakin, Linda Callaghan, Sophie Lee, Sebastian Adams, Patrick King, Mark Horgan, Eve Horgan, Eve Roseingrave, Robert Farhat, Katie Hyland, Beth Kelly, Seraphim Dempsey. There were also two entertaining performances from groups "The Flamingo Frogs" and 20 Group. Well done everybody!

1st Year team wins Chemistry competition!

Well done to the Form 1 team (and their teacher Dr Whitford) which won the Salters' Festival of Chemistry Salters' challenge on Saturday in Trinity College.
The judges were so impressed with the entry that the school has been invited to send a team to represent Ireland in the final of the Royal Society of Chemistry's "Top of the Bench" schools competition next April in the Science Museum, London, all expenses paid.

Leinster gold medal

Well done to Robbie (right) who won the Leinster 100m championship on Saturday. A great performance!!

Best Form 1 reader

Congratulations to our Library Prize winner (far right) for best reader. The prize is awarded on the quality and range of reading as well as the number of books involved.

 

Amy Kenealy

Congratulations to Amy on being selected for the Irish Senior cricket team. She has been training for the world cup in 2007. She will hopefully be heading to Sussex to play and English 'A' team and Canterbury of New Zealand and then later a summer tour with the Under 21s to Holland, as well as a week long cricket academy in Edinburgh.

In boys cricket the 2nd XI beat Wesley College in the league and the Under 13 beat CUS.

 

Nolwen Emily

Notre assistente Nolwen Emily, est arrivée au commencement d’octobre 2005 de Landivisiau près de Brest. Ouí, une vraie Bretonne!
Dès le début elle s’est vite accoutumée à la vie scolaire à la High School. Elle a travaillé avec enthousiasme et imagination dans tous ses cours de la première année jusqu’aux classes de baccalauréat. Ella a aidé surtout les élèves de terminale avec leurs préparatifs pour l’examen oral.
Nolwen a pris part dans beaucoup d’activités de notre lycée: par exemple elle a soutenu les élèves pendant les matchs de rugby, a fait des randonnées dans les montagnes et est mêmce partie en voyage au Burren.
Tous nos collègues et surtout ceux qui enseignent le francais et bien sûr tous ses écoliers lui souhaitent bonne chance et bon courage avec ses études. Au revoir, Nolwen, et merci beaucoup pour tout.

New Physics book

Mr Kelly and former High School teacher Mr K. Mills have published a new Leaving Certificate physics book. This follows their recent publication of the "Magical Bag of Mathematical Tricks" for higher Leaving Certificate Mathematics.

Frisbee challenge

A students vs teachers Ultimate Frisbee match will take place after school next Friday, 26 May, with all proceeds going to Concern. Please ask your teachers if they are playing and sponsor them with anything you can - a little can go a very long way!! Keep an eye on the sports noticeboards for more info and we hope to see you all out there on Friday evening supporting!!

Farewells

We would like to wish Mr Wisener and Mr Walker well with their career breaks next year. Replacement teachers have been appointed and we will welcome them in due course.
We would also like to wish Form 6 pupils and any others leaving the school the very best in the future. Good luck in all exams to everybody!! And, have a lovely summer holiday. (This is the last edition of the newsletter.)
