Measles - important information
The HSE has informed us that a national
measles outbreak is occurring. Non-immune children /staff are at risk of
measles and put others in the school at risk. All children are
recommended to have had two doses of MMR vaccine and parents should
ensure their child’s vaccinations are up to date by contacting their GP.
Any staff member who thinks they may be at risk of measles (never had
measles or a measles containing vaccine) should speak with their GP
about vaccination.
Note - it is of interest that the scare about the MMR vaccine causing
autism has been proven by scientific research since then to be false and
that the original doctor who caused the scare has withdrawn his
"research" into the subject. The full details can be found in this Irish
Times report
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/frontpage/2010/0203/1224263660275.html
Because of the original scare, some pupils may not have received the two
MMR vaccine doses.
The Erasmian & Diocesan Times Photography
Competition
This year we are launching a whole school
photography competition sponsored by Dublin Camera Exchange, George's
Street. The winning photographs will be featured in the yearbook and
will be exhibited in the school.
The theme for the competition is to be based on the lyric "we hope you
enjoy the show" taken from The Beatles' song "Sargeant Pepper's Lonely
Hearts' Club Band". Some suggestions include facial expressions, street
performers/buskers, dressing-up/make-up, theatre/concerts, circus,
abstract interpretations, e.g. expressive use of colour or light.
The first prize will be a €50 voucher for the Dublin Camera Exchange and
there will be two runner-up prizes of €25 vouchers for the same shop.
The conditions of entry are that you should submit a photographic print
(no larger than A3) together with a copy on CD, maximum 5 photographs
per person. Entries should be submitted to Ms Killane by Thursday 25
March 2010.
