We're the Irish - be proud!

This week we are running a competition for pupils to mark our national holiday - St Patrick's Day. The prizes are three €20 tokens for Golden Discs. All you have to do is to write down a reason to be proud of Ireland or of being Irish, put your name and form on the entry and hand it in to the office before the end of term on Wednesday. You can put as many reasons as you like on one sheet of paper and each will be treated as a separate entry. Originality, humour, cleverness will add to your chances but are not the only things which will be judged. Plain good reasons will be judged as well.

Here are just a few to start you thinking and you can't use any of these!

  • The leading software exporter outside of the USA

  • U2

  • Sure we're lovely people

  • Roy Keane

  • Ryanair - the most successful airline in the world

J.W. Willoughby

We regret to record the death of Mr James (Jim) Willoughby, former Vice Principal of The High School, 1985-88. Mr Willoughby taught History (1949-1988) and was prominent in the taking of games throughout his career. He was regular in his attendance at school functions until his recent illness and will be sadly missed by his former colleagues and students. We extend our sympathy to his wife and family. A more detailed article about Mr Willoughby will appear in The Erasmian & Diocesan Times.

World Book Day library competitions

Well done to the winners of the "Write a poem on a leaf" competition, the "Guess who the authors are" competition,  the literature quiz, and the "vote for your favourite book" competition.

Uniform

The consultation process begun during the autumn concerning proposed changes to the uniform is now complete, pupils, parents' representatives and staff having been consulted. The Parents' Association committee regards the proposed crested shirt as too expensive and since other changes depend on its introduction, it has been decided that no change will be made in the uniform for next year.

Summer uniform may be worn from the first day of the summer term. The wearing of school jumpers is optional during the summer period. Plain white aertex (polo) shirts may be worn. The school tie is worn and uniform is to be worn neatly with shirts tucked in.
