The team consisted of Ian Thom, Michael Sexton, Leon Fernandez-Brennan and Tariq Messalati. The first three teams will be invited to a further all-Ireland Maths competition hosted by Trinity College. French film outingOn Monday 7th, Mr Giles' 4th year class, Mlle Roullet and Ms Boyce's 5th year French classes went to the Irish Film Institute to see the French film "A Very Long Engagement". The auteur, Jean-Pierre Jeunet and leading actress, Audrey Tautou from the award-winning "Amelie" were reunited in this epic romance set in the First World War. Although it was quite long, everyone was enthralled by the stunning cinematography and superb storyline. Even for those who do not study French, it is worthwhile going to see, and caters for everybody's taste of film. Laura-Anne Stewart, Chloe Stacey & Tim Harris European Youth ParliamentAnyone wishing to participate in the European Youth Parliament 2005 should see Mr D. Miller (B7) before Friday 25 February to complete the relevant application forms. The Dublin regional selection conference takes place from 11 to 13 March. www.eneclann.ie www.huguenotsociety.org.uk Irish - Sri Lanka Trust FundThe fund trustees have written to thank all who contributed to our recent appeal to build a fishing boat for the people of a village in Sri Lanka. As you know, the Student Council raised well over the target amount and so our €3,000 will provide a complete boat, with the balance of about another €1,700 going to African relief. The boats are being manufactured locally in Sri Lanka by reputable boat builders thereby creating employment which is the most important element in assisting the community to rebuild itself. When the boat is finished, it will be named by the Student Council and we will receive a photograph of it for display! Well done!! One Act Play competitionOn the night of Wednesday 9 February, a large part of the audience in St Andrew's theatre hailed from High School. They were all eagerly awaiting the beginning of High School's performance of the one act play "Totally Over You" by Mark Ravenhill. With a host of talented actors filling the roles, this cast didn't disappoint. The play centres around four girls, Kitty, Rochelle, Sinita and Hannah, who are obsessed by celebrity. Led by Kitty (and their horoscopes), they dump their boyfriends (Jake, Dan, Franzi and Tyson) in search of...yes, you guessed it, celebrities. Upset, the boys, inspired by their "friend" Victor, decide to exact their revenge. In the blink of an eye, they have become "Awesome" - the boy band that are rocketing their way to the top - or so the girls believe. By now, the girls think that they have made the biggest mistake of their lives. Kitty was played by Tamryn Reinecke, who ably showed us the character's leadership qualities as well as her vulnerable side. Hannah Jennings shone as Rochelle, moving the audience to collapse in stitches of laughter before she even spoke a word. Roxanne Brownlee, in the part of Sinita, gave anothe humourous portrayal of a highly strung, easily excitable character while also managing an excellent Indian accent! Rachel McCoy's Hannah also made her presence felt and rounded out the group of four. The boys complemented their female counterparts impeccably. Robert Bradish, Philip Deegan and Ciaran Maginn were Franzi, Tyson and Dan respectively. All three showed the audience a huge transformation from dejected rejects to "pop stars". Jake, as Kitty's boyfriend, stood out. Davey Kelleher put across Jake's resentment at being dumped, his eagerness to get revenge and his final weariness of the scheme as Letitia tries to keep up the pretence. Jake O'Brien, as Victor, added a comic element throughout and was vital to the play. Joelle Grogan, as Letitia, persuaded us to sympathise with her and we were constantly willing her to succeed in her transformation from shy student to confident PA. The drama class - Nicola Cantan, Scott O'Malley, Eoin Silke, Frank Moriarty and Rob Hunt - doubled as press reporters and added to the overall atmosphere. Michael, the stylist, played by Eoin Silke, was exaggerated to perfection. The play's director, Ms Fitzgerald, was invaluable. To quote one of the actors, "Ms Fitzgerald's undying hope in the play and belief in us as actors, gave us the confidence and inspiration to make the play what it was. Thank you, Ms Fitzgerald!" The play was a fast paced comedy and the audience was enthralled throughout. The actors and director gelled together to produce a highly entertaining, well-polished performance! Beth Kelly (we regret we have had to edit this fine report due to pressure of space) SCT rugby cup match vs BlackrockThe senior rugby team played Blackrock in the Leinster schools cup on the Monday before half term in Donnybrook. We were playing the defending champions and favourites for the cup this year so it was going to be a very tough match. We started very well, with our forwards dominating. Blackrock got two early penalties and a try very late in the first half to make it 13-0 at half time. The second half started well with us putting 6 points on the board with two Alan Thompson penalties. The match continued at 13-6 for the next 20 minutes with us looking the stronger side for a lot of the time. In the last ten minutes we started to tire and unfortunately Blackrock managed to get two very late tries in injury time to finish the game at 28-6. Thanks to all the supporters for coming to cheer us on - we really appreciated it! Niall McDarby Sport this week
