Student Council
The new student council has met twice
this term and has elected the following people to its officer positions:
Alison Walker as President, Aidan Cowlard Joyce as Vice President, Guy
Prendergast as Secretary.
The council wishes to remind all students of the importance of attending
meetings. If you are the representative for your form, failure to attend
meetings means you are not allowing your class to have a voice on the
council. Notices of meetings are on the noticeboard outside the Reynolds
hall, on the door of A22 and around the school. The next meeting is on
Nov 5th at 8:30 am. The student council has a suggestion box in the
library for all students to leave ideas of issues the council may wish
to deal with. Some of the ideas the council is currently discussing and
working on are the availability of food in the school including
compiling the results of a vegetarian survey carried out last year, a
student council newsletter and forming a green group to investigate
green issues that could be addressed in the school.

IRFU against supplements
In response to the growing trend of
schoolboys taking dietary and other supplements as part of their
preparation to play rugby and other sports, the IRFU has, last week,
re-issued the following statement, the content of which would be normal
policy in this school already:
n Young rugby players should focus on good eating and drinking practices
to support optimum performance. Fact sheets to support this are
available through the IRFU website www.IrishRugby.ie
n The use of protein supplements should not be recommended by schools,
coaches, teachers or others involved in the training of young rugby
players.
n The IRFU strongly advises against the use of nutritional ergogenic
aids, in particular creatine.
The message therefore is - good, balanced diet, plenty of water, quality
training, no supplements.
