SCT and JCT both progress to second round of
rugby qualifier cups
Well done to both teams who have
progressed to the second rounds of the Vinnie Murray Cup and the Father
Godfrey Cup respectively.
The seniors won 10-5 against Roscrea in a game of two halves. With a
very strong wind, High School pinned Roscrea in their own half for most
of the first 35 minutes. A try by Tom Emo after 15 minutes, converted by
Ciaran Collins, followed by a penalty by Ciaran on 25 minutes, gave High
School a 10-0 lead at half time. With the wind against us in the second
half we needed a spectacular defense which was provided, especially by
Conor O'Donnell and Mark Weston. Roscrea scored a try with 20 minutes to
go and so the last quarter was nailbiting. High School now play CUS in
the second round on Wed 21 Jan, 2.30 p.m. at Railway Union, Park Avenue,
Sandymount.
A magnificent display of back play ensured that the JCT advanced with a
score of 38 to 0 against CBS Naas. With a 26-0 lead at half time (tries
by Jamie Connell (2), Conor Sexton and Jordan McQuaid, 3 converted by
Luke O'Donnell), High School always looked like winning. In the second
half a spectacular try by Ian Sheridan (converted Luke O'Donnell) and a
late try in the corner by Conor Sexton ensured the victory. The team
will now play Wesley in the second round. Many thanks to all supporters
and staff who attended.
Senior 1st and Junior A both win first round cup
matches
Well done to the Senior 1st who beat St
Raphaela's 7-1 in the senior cup and to the Junior A who beat Alexandra
on penalty strokes after extra time. (We would love to have more
detailed reports of future cup matches to print!)
