Calendar changesThe spring staff meeting has had to be rescheduled again to suit the availability of a guest facilitator. It will now take place on Tuesday 3 February at 2.35 p.m., when school will close. There will be no after school activities that day. (The meeting is NOT now on 29 January) Parent teacher meetings will take place as follows: Form 5 Tuesday 24 February, school closes at 12.35 p.m.; Form 1 Monday 8 March, school closes at 12.35 p.m.; Form 2 Thursday 25 March, school closes at 2.35 p.m. (note later time for the Form 2 meeting). Full details of how to reserve appointment times to see teachers will be sent to parents in the post. Form 5 study techniques seminarThe seminar will be held on Saturday 31 January from 9.30 a.m. to 3.15 p.m. It is recommended that all Form 5 pupils attend as previous years have found the course very useful. Application forms have been sent out over the holiday period. Any remaining application forms should be left into the office within the next day or so. Numbers will be finalised this week. 3G winter swimOn the 22nd December 2003 (which some have claimed was the coldest day of the year), the brave class of 3G set off for a charity swim in the Forty Foot at Sandycove. For about two weeks beforehand, we had been looking for sponsorship from friends and relatives. People were very generous, not just because they admired our nerve, but because the money was to go towards the St Luke's Hospital Fund. People considered this a worthwhile fund and were eager to help. We set off from the school at 9.00 a.m., very apprehensive, due to the freezing weather. When we got there, the stone pier and cold air were bad enough and the jump took courage. The icy water felt like the jolt of an electric shock and most of us were out of the water in seconds. Despite this, hot chocolate and a jog soon warmed us up. We all got a great thrill out of the experience and were very happy with ourselves, especially when we heard that the amount raised was €1,431.00 3G would like to thank Ms Jones, Mr O'Connor, Mrs Kane and Mr Swan for all their help, support and participation. Also, well done to Deirdre McClean and Lucy Keogh for their photography and to Andy Lohan, for jumping in three times! Hannah Jennings Below: the full swim group

Our pink pig was very fat with the €100 of change that was raised for the cottage home for little children, Dun Laoghaire. Thank you to everyone who fed our pig. He was very grateful and so will all the children in the home be. Proteen MattersThe latest edition of this teenage magazine is now at www.mentalhealthireland.ie/webmag Parents - we need your help!Pleeeeeeease phone the office on the first day of absence of your son/daughter! Vast amounts of work and worry are caused when you don't. This system is for the safety of your children. Thank you to all those who remember! Also, please send in absence notes when the pupil returns to school - it is a legal requirement that we keep the reason for the absence on record for welfare inspectors.
