Senior girls hockey league final

Congratulations to the 1st XI girls hockey team for getting to the league final by defeating Muckross on penalty flicks in the semi-final replay. The team played well in the final but unfortunately went out to a stronger Our Lady's Terenure 2-0.

W.B. Yeats connection

We have been pleased to have the great granddaughter of W.B. Yeats, as a student during this term. Yeats was a pupil at the school and his great granddaughter chose this school to visit for a term because of her mother's Irish connection and the family history. She comes from an area near Munich in Bavaria where her school is of a similar size to this one but is situated on a lake with a beautiful view of the Alps. She commented to the newsletter that she has found everybody very pleasant while she was here and that she has not been lonely. She appreciated learning about the differences between German and Irish society and culture. In German schools there is no uniform which she likes, but she found uniform interesting because she didn't have to think of what to wear! While she was here she undertook work experience in the Abbey Theatre and viewed Jack B. Yeats' paintings at the National Art Gallery, in which she is very interested. All the best back in Germany! She is photographed beside a modernist painting of W.B. Yeats by Rayne Booth, who was then a pupil of The High School. The painting hangs in the Music Centre.
