Swimming gala winners

On Tuesday, 11th March, The High School Swim Team made up of 25 swimmers set out for our first ever swimming gala. This was an inter-school gala with teams from Newpark Comprehensive; Kings Hospital and St. Andrew’s schools also taking part in the competition.

First up was First Year girls and boys who did us proud. After 10 events we were joint 2nd but some strong swimming from the 2nd years and senior girls meant we were in the lead by 8 points. We had a lunch break and got back into action with the Senior 4 x 50m relay in which we came 2nd.

After the senior section, it was time for the 3rd years. In that section Kings Hospital were starting to creep up on us until we were winning by only 1 point. The gala finished with the canon relay, about which there was some confusion about the final winners, however, in the end The High School came out on top. Our final allocated score was 91 points.

First years: (G) Ellen Baldwin; DaynaClegg; Jennifer Long; ChloeDeakin; Eimear Ni Bhroin. (B) Mathew Holder; Naoise McTiernan; Lorcan O’Byrne; John Hackett.

Second years: (G) Laura Duggan; Megan Kilpatrick; Niamh Murphy

(B) John Martin; Sam Lunn; Aidan O’Byrne; Brendan Murray Byrne.

Third years: (G) Amy Deverell; Aimee Bannister; Aisling Naylor (B) RyanFarrell

Senior years: (G) Laura Martin; Charlotte Leonard Kane; Aimee Jones O’Connor; Lisa Meehan; Andrea Murray Byrne

We would like to thank Ms. T. Jones and Mr. A. Malin for organising and coaching the school swimming. Well done to all. We had some great results and a good time.

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Well done to everybody who took part in a wide range of activities celebrating Seachtain na Gaeilge in the last week of the Spring term, leading up to the St Patrick's Festival.

Canoeing

Canoeing will resume on Saturday 5 April from 9.00 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. This term we hope to organise a number of trips to the Liffey (dates later). Pupils from any year are welcome but a minimum standard is required before going on river trips. Preference will be given to pupils who have already been canoeing with High School. Pupils wishing to go on these trips (in May) should try to attend the training sessions on the Dodder on Saturday 5, 12 and 26 April 0900-1030. There will no canoeing on Saturday 19 April.

If you want to take part you must sign up on the noticeboard in the Technical building. Only sign up if you are certain you will be there. If you have signed and then find you can not attend you must see Mr Cryan no later than 9.00 a.m. Thursday so that your place can be allocated to someone else.

Any pupil who has not been canoeing earlier in this school year must obtain a consent form in the Technical building, have it signed by a parent or guardian and return it to Mr Cryan.
