Prefects

Congratulations to the above who have been elected Prefects for the year 2006-2007:
The system of election for prefects is that they are voted into office by their own year group and the staff, subject to the approval of the Principal. The Principal invites those who have reached the qualifying level of votes to consider the responsibilities and duties attached to being a prefect and confirms appointments in August.
The prefects are responsible for many duties which assist the smooth running of the school and all pupils are expected to cooperate with requests made by prefects. Prefects are also there to help other pupils, especially those new to the school or those who may be experiencing difficulties of one sort or another, so don't hesitate to ask for their help.

Dublin Simon Community Fun Run

Each year the school enters a team in the sponsored fun run to raise funds for the Simon Community which is an organisation which helps homeless people in the city. Last year we raised more money than any other school and are hoping to do the same again this year, but we need lots of volunteers and sponsors! The fun run takes place in the Phoenix Park on Sunday 8 October at 2.30 p.m. and sponsorship forms are available from Mr McClure (A4).

Beyond

‘Beyond’ is a new club for students from Forms 1,2 and 3. ‘Beyond’ is for anyone on Junior lunch who wants to question and explore, with other students, how teenage life is impacted by faith and spirituality. The first event 'Authentic Smoothie Bar’ was sponsored by Beyond and by Authentic Youth (from Scripture Union) and happened yesterday, Monday 18th September. Events will happen every two weeks. The next event will be on Monday 2nd October at 12.45pm in C 10. More details later. (‘Beyond’ is the new name for the Junior Christian Union). Further information from Mrs Carson. Ms Watson, Mr Wilkinson or Mrs Reilly.

Change in uniform sanctions

The staff have decided that the sanctions applied for uniform and appearance infringements should be changed. From now on, when a pupil is infringing, he/she will be required to write out the uniform pages from the information booklet and a notification slip will be sent to parents. If a pupil infringes three times, a detention will be issued. As always, the staff prefer that cooperation is the norm, rather than confrontation. Pupils are therefore asked to be familiar with the uniform and appearance requirements and to cooperate. Excuses such as "it's in the wash", "I couldn't find it", "I didn't buy one", etc. are not acceptable. Pupils are expected to present themselves in correct uniform, properly worn, for every class.

The Matchmaker

In August, Limelight Productions founded by former High School students, Rob Bradish and Davey Kelleher, staged a production of Thorton Wilder’s hilarious romantic comedy, The Matchmaker, the inspiration for the American musical Hello Dolly. Due to popular demand the play will be performed on the High School stage this Saturday, 23 September at 7:30 (doors open at 7). The play features the comic talent of several present high school students: Hannah Jennings, Tamryn Reinecke, Ruth Hunter, Cameron Brownlee, and Lorcan Murphy. Tickets will be available from Hannah Jennings or at the door. It’s a brilliant play that the whole family will enjoy. Don’t miss it!
