Prefects
We congratulate the Prefects (above) on
their election by the pupils of Form 6 and the staff. The prefects are
responsible for many duties which assist the smooth running of the
school and all pupils are expected to cooperate with requests made by
prefects. Prefects are also there to help other pupils, especially those
new to the school. (Right James and Stuart
checking punctuality; second right Aimee and Diarmuid, Head Girl and
Boy)
"Swine" Flu
Please remember that if you have
confirmed "swine" flu, government regulations require that you stay at
home for 7 days from the onset of symptoms, to minimise the risk of
infecting other people. Only return after 7 days if you are fully
recovered. If you return early you will be sent home, whether or not you
are displaying symptoms.
For other sensible precautions and hygiene recommendations, please refer
back to the letter sent to you during the summer.
International tennis
Congratulations to Susan McRann who
represented Ireland at the Four Nations championships in Scotland at the
weekend.
Band success
Well done to Rebecca Tully (Form 4) who
participated in the World Marching Band Championships in Kerkrade,
Holland, in July, with the Clondalkin Youth Band. The band scored 82.75%
(gold medal standard) and were the highest placed Irish Band in the
competition. They were placed 7th out of 200 bands in their section.
Past pupil receives An gaisce gold award
Congratulations to Justin Dawson
(3rd down right) who was presented with a gold President's Award
medal recently in Dublin Castle, pictured above with Mr J Swan and
President McAleese.
Any student in Form 5 or 6 who wishes to complete the silver or the gold
award should see Mr D Miller in A4 for details.
Foundation Day initiative awards
These are awarded at the Prize
Distribution and are open to pupils of Forms 3 to 6. They are awarded to
up to 3 students who have shown initiative, organisational ability or
administrative ability in starting or promoting a school activity.
To be eligible for a prize a student must be nominated in writing by two
other students with a short statement of the reasons for the nomination.
Please give nominations to Ms Saville (A10) by Friday 18 September.

Below -the Transition
Year Gaisce President's Award hillwalk to Glendalough Valley - a long
day but in the glorious sunshine at the weekend!
Above right - the group anxiously digs for
water in the parched deserts of Co Wicklow in the hope of warding off a
certain catastrophe. Thankfully, they found reserves in previously
undiscovered Ballygowan bottles, survived and returned safely. |
