Dublin Simon Fun Run

The run took place on 18 October in the Phoenix Park. This annual event aims to promote awareness of the homeless problem in Dublin and to raise much needed funds for the Simon Community. The five mile fun run has always had the support of students from The High School but this year we entered one of our biggest teams ever. Pupils from 1st to 6th years took up the challenge to get sponsorship and to run, walk or skip the five miles.
Well done to all who took part and especially to Nathaniel O'Leary (2WH), our first pupil home in just 35 minutes. Could students please bring all money raised to Mrs Hutchinson-Edgar in A22 by Thursday 15 October.

Prize Day & Parents' Evening

Prize Day and Parents' Evening will take place this year on Wednesday 21 October at 8.00 p.m. (please be seated by 7.50 p.m.). This year, the guest speaker will be Dr Aengus O'Marcaigh, Consultant Paediatric Haematologist at the National Paediatric Haematology/Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant Centre at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin. There will also be performances by a choir and by the orchestra.
The parents of prize winners will receive a written invitation but other parents and pupils are also welcome to attend. Refreshments are served afterwards. Pupils attending must wear full winter uniform, including tie and school jumper.

Galway city cultural trip

After a long train trip, the Transition Year group visited UCG and had a short talk about the university. Afterwards we went to talk to some of the people on the information stands. I was very interested in mechanical and biomedical engineering and mathematics, but eventually I decided on general science. We then had lunch before heading back to the Quad, after which we walked to the river Corrib.
We took a boat trip up the river where we got to see some of the beautiful countryside and to learn about some local history. We then proceeded to the local museum and learned about mroe of the history of the area, such as the Corrib ring.
My friends and I then had some free time in Eyre Square where we had a cheap meal in Supermac before going for a quick shop and then taking the train home. I feel the day helped me with choosing a subject for when I leave school. We also learned more about Galway. Thanks to the staff for arranging the day.

Guitar lessons

Guitar lessons are available in school. Pupils can take individual lessons or in groups of two or three. If you are interested see Deborah in the office.

Hillwalking for all pupils

Pupils from all years are welcome to take part in the next hill walk on Sunday 18th October. The trip to Glendalough should be an enjoyable one. With luck the good weather might hold out. However it is important when venturing on the mountains to be prepared for bad weather as conditions can change rapidly in the hills.
If you would like to come you can get an information sheet with a consent form and an equipment list from Mr. Cryan in the Technology Block.
