Best ever Junior Cert. results - well done!
The Junior Certificate results this year are again
outstanding and rank as the best we have ever had in the school.
135 pupils presented 1073 papers where different
levels are available and 135 papers at common level (CSPE). 1056 papers
were taken at higher level and grade C or better was obtained in 88% of
these. Grade E or less was obtained on 2% of all papers. The percentage
of papers gaining a grade C or better at higher level as a percentage of
the total number of papers was 77%.
So, well done Transition Year!!
Scholarships
Congratulations to Jessie Elliott, Joelle Grogan, Beth Kelly, Toby
Lyons, Eoin Silke and Andrew Stevenson who have all gained Entrance
Exhibitions into Trinity College on the basis of the quality of their
Leaving Certificate results. Congratulations also to Roxanne Brownlee
who was awarded a scholarship to NUI Maynooth and to Gemma McRann who
was awarded a scholarship to UCD. Six Exhibitions into TCD is a superb
performance for any school.
Two students achieve maximum points
Congratulations to Robert Farhat and Gemma McRann
(right) who both gained maximum points in the Leaving Certificate
this year. Robert is currently studying a music performance course with
concert pianist John O'Connor. Gemma is studying Economics and Finance
in UCD.
Considering that only just over 100 students gain maximum points each
year and that there are over 700 second level schools, for two of our
pupils to do so well is a great credit to them and to their teachers. |

Oh Boy!
The 5th Year Play, Oh Boy!, will commence on Thursday
the 22 November, with performances on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 as well.
"Oh Boy!" is an original High School production with
classic songs and dances from the 1950s, the era that saw the emergence
of Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Bill Hayley and many other rock n roll
greats.
Tickets are 10 for adults and 7 for students.
Were looking forward to seeing everyone there for
what should be an entertaining evening.

Concern
Rory Sturdy, of Concern, recently visited both senior
and junior assembly to congratulate the students of High School on their
magnificent achievement in raising 4665 last year in the Concern Save
Lives Fast. He presented a Certificate of Outstanding Effort to the
pupils of the school.
In his talk, Rory discussed many of the projects which Concern
undertakes throughout the developing world. He explained that their
emphasis is on longterm sustainable assistance for communities and he
gave one example where they sent a farmer on an agricultural training
course and then gave him two pigs with which to begin building a new
enterprise. |
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
On behalf of Ms.King, Ms.Graham and The Library
Committee we would like to thank everyone who supported our efforts to
raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October buying pins,
ribbons, phone charms and keyrings. We also had some very generous
donations. A very kind 1st year pupil brought in a bag of loose change
that came to a total of 20 - thank you so much. We are delighted to
tell you that we have raised a total of 540.
Thank you so much to each and everyone of you who
contributed to this very worthy cause. As some of you heard in assembly,
we are sure that cancer has affected each and everyone of us in one way
or another. Also thank you so much to everyone who was involved in the
selling of pins etc.

Formula 1 Races
There will be a F1 race competition (sponsored by
Honda) to be entered by teams from all over the world. The first round
will be in Ireland and the winner will go on to race the winners of
other countries in Melbourne.
One of High School's teams is the 3rd year Technical
Graphics class, made up of Alex Deane, Simon Jackson, Troy Gallagher,
Matthew Smith, Shane O'Reilly and Sean-Tee Lim. We have entered under
the name "Turbo-Charged". The school is also entering two senior teams.
We must make a car out of a block of wood measuring
305x42x70mm. The fuel to be used is a canister of CO2 gas. There are
awards, not only for first, second and third places in the race, but
also on performance, display, best engineered, best team website, best
marketing and sponsorship and best newcomer (new award).
