End of Christmas term fun!

Mathematics Olympiad

Congratulations to Christopher Blair, Thomas Finn, Francis Moriarty and Davey Kelleher, who have been selected to attend training for the International Mathematical Olympiad. This is a very prestigious competition and the final will be held in Athens in July 2004. Students are invited to participate in training because of their exceptional mathematical ability

NASA assistant

Well done to Anna McCormick who has been offered the position of personal assistant to the invited VIPs from NASA (National Aeronautical Space Agency) at the FAS opportunities fair this year.

Form 6 parents

All of the 120 6th year students have now had an opportunity to attend a one to one career interview with the Guidance Counsellor. Ms Jones is keeping Monday 19th January free for queries relating to college application from parents of Leaving Certificate students. Should you wish to avail of an appointment on that day either in person or by telephone, please contact the office in advance to arrange a time.

Calendar change

You are reminded that the staff meeting scheduled for today has been postponed until Thursday 29 January. On that day, school will close at 2.35 p.m. and there will be no after school games or activities.

Swimming

Congratulations to Ian Thom of Form 5, who represented the school in the Leinster Schools Championships held in Dublin in December, where he won a silver medal in the 100 metres backstroke event.

Library art competition

A brilliant art competition was held in the library before Christmas. The theme was Global Christmas and the winners were Darragh Keller (2S) for the most original entry, Evanna Mills (2G) and Ruth Senior (2F) for the most artistic and nearest to the theme, William McConnell (3HE) for the best drawing and Kevin Smith (1D) for the nearest to the theme. Thank you to all.

Simon Community food collection

Many thanks to all pupils, parents and staff who contributed so generously to the appeal for foodstuffs. Last year we delivered 12 boxes to the night shelter for the homeless and this year we improved on that and filled 22 boxes, so a big thank you to all those who brought in contributions. The food will be put to good use in the shelter providing meals, soup and hot drinks.

Congratulations and thanks to those pupils who volunteered to work on the project, particularly Rebecca Rolfe, Sharon Johnson, Neil Smith, Neil O'Connor, Jerome Van Jaarsveld and Mandy Lowe.

Christian Aid collection

Christian Aid has written to us to thank the students, parents and staff who collected and contributed €275 at the Carol Service before Christmas.
