Junior A reach the cup final!
We were nervous but confident before the
semi-final of the Leinster Junior Cup on Thursday. St Andrew's were the
favourites but this made us more determined. We had been training hard
and knew we were capable of winning.
We started the match strongly, attacking the Andrew's defence. We were
awarded a few short corners but unfortunately failed to score from them.
When the half time whistle blew, the score was 0-0 and we felt
frustrated we weren't ahead. This made us even more determined to win in
the second half.
Andrew's came out strong in the second half. Then came a superbly
executed goal from a short corner, scored by Susan McRann and also the
result of excellent coordinated team work in a complex move. Andrew's
responded with a strong attack and were awarded a flick in the middle of
the second half. Eve Roseingrave, our goalkeeper, who had an
unbelievably good match, made a super save. Andrew's continued with a
sustained attack, time and again shooting at our goal but we held them
until the final whistle with good team work in defence.
Thanks to all the supporters who came to this incredibly exciting match.
The final will take place tomorrow Tuesday at 2.00 p.m. in Three Rock
Rovers against Alexandra College.
Olwen Smith, Alison Meeke (with additions!). Well done to the team and

Taking drugs?
Fancy being expelled? "Oh, yeah, she was
the druggy one, had to leave........" spoken at a dinner party thirty
years later. "No, he isn't able to go on a J1 visa to work with us in
the States this summer......I heard he has a conviction for cannabis and
they won't let him into the States. Shame, because all the rest of the
college class are going." "No, he dropped out after first year
Biochemistry.....couldn't keep it together with all the hash and the
booze."
The school has an education programme which seeks to inform pupils about
the dangers of abusing drugs and to equip them with the necessary
lifeskills to resist the offer of drugs. This programme takes place in
stages from Form 1 to Form 4 in Social, Personal and Health Education
classes and in Transition Year courses, though the topic may also
mentioned in other subjects as well.
In the case of any pupil found to be using illegal drugs, to be in
possession of them, to be supplying them to another pupil or to be under
the influence of them while in school, it is the policy of this school
to inform and involve the Garda Siochána and the parents of the pupil,
offering advice to parents on where to obtain expert professional help.
|
Having anything to do with
illegal drugs is regarded by the school as one of the most serious
breaches there could be of our code of conduct and any case would be
referred to the serious discipline committee of the school. In almost
all circumstances, the pupil or pupils concerned would be expelled from
the school. This policy also applies to pupils while travelling to and
from school, while in school uniform, while in the vicinity of the
school or while on any school related activity in this country or abroad
(e.g. excursions, field trips).
Some examples of illegal drugs are cannabis or hash, ecstasy, cocaine,
heroin, etc. It is in the interests of pupils to think carefully about
this policy and its consequences. It is, for example, not often realised
that people with drug-related convictions may be prohibited from
travelling to the United States and many other countries for the rest of
their lives, even for student work or a holiday. Many employment
opportunities may also be closed to such people.
This policy is published in our information handbook annually and is
restated here as a reminder.
