Junior Drama 2010
On 25th March Junior Drama put on not one
but two plays. The two one act plays were written specially for the
students by Ray Murray and excellently directed and produced by Barry
O’Kelly and Ms Milne. In the first play entitled ‘Shoegazing’ we were
superbly entertained by a meritorious cast which brought us a story of
being yourself, accepting others and broadening your outlook on life. A
subtle and gentle tale, it had plenty of humour while dealing with
deeper issues. The main characters Andy (Nathaniel O’Leary) and Aveline
(Grace O’Donnell) deserve special mention in a production that had
wonderful performances throughout. The full cast was Emily ni Riain,
Jessica McConnell, Eva Barrett, Abigail Donnelly, Grace O’Donnell,
Nathaniel O’Leary, Paul Harris, Mike Dolan, Darren Snodgrass.
The second play, as with the first, demonstrated the reward of hard work
which paid off with yet another high quality production. This play
entitled ‘Stargazing’ linked well with the first in dealing with being
true to your self. The play centred on the studio of Stargazers “the
dynamic talent show that kills off dreams by making them come true”.
This was a more high energy play with plenty of music and dancing. It
had very strong performances from the cast, especially Aisling Kelly,
Alice de Forge, Evan Burroughs, Ellen Mullooly, Ellen O’Gorman, Cian
Milofsky and Alexandra Da Silva Talaia. An enjoyable production,
extremely well choreographed, this was funny, lively and had an
unexpected finale. Other members of the cast were Emma O’Malley, Tom
Harris, Emma McNeilly, Laura Dunne, Megan O’Byrne, Marika Gentile, Eva
Tyrell, Elizabeth Gageby, Jessica McConnell, Tony Zheng.
Overall junior drama deserves congratulations on producing these two
plays so professionally and treating audiences to a very entertaining
night out. Behind the scene flawless work was carried out in sound and
lighting and a great deal of work had clearly gone in to the design and
construction of the set, costumes, make up and choreography. Well done
to all involved.
Model United Nations
During the Easter holidays ten students
from The High School represented Chile and the United Kingdom in the St.
Andrews International Model United Nations conference held over four
days in Dublin.
Along with over 800 students taking part in the student run conference
delegates debated topics such as the freedom of the press within the
global community, providing adequate housing to global slum populations,
violence and discrimination against women and the protection of
endangered species.
High School once again debated to the highest of standards and walked
away with four distinguished delegate awards and one highly commended
delegation award. This outstanding achievement is a reflection of the
enthusiasm shown and effort put in by the students throughout the year.
