Spectacular concert

Congratulations to the Music Department (Ms B Bourke and Ms M White), to all performers, singers, comperes and to those who helped with preparation and accompaniment on a wonderful concert last Wednesday evening. From Chopin to Coldpay, the audience was treated to a very professional display of the best of musical talent.

Retirements

We congratulate Mrs L Pearce, Mr J Swan (above) and Mr M Wisener (below) on their retirements this year, though we will miss them all. We wish them the very best in the future and thank them for their enormous contribution to the school.
Mrs Pearce has worked here since 1989 as a Mathematics teacher, support teacher and form teacher. In recent years she has been coordinator of the Special Needs Department. A generation of students will remember her special care and attention for those with individual needs.
Mr Swan came to The High School in 1977 as a Geography teacher. Over the years he has devoted great energy to canoeing, swimming, coordinating the President's Award Scheme and visiting teachers/coaches to Transition Year. He served as coordinator of the Geography Department and of internal examinations as well as fulfilling the role of form teacher.
Mr Wisener established the Music Department at the school in 1979. He built up the Orchestra and Choirs over many years to an outstanding standard, preparing and conducting them for all public occasions as well as external examinations and competitions. He also taught French and served as a form teacher. He left on career break in 2006 and is now organist of St Fin Barre's Cathedral, Cork.

Table-tennis champion

Congratulations to Stephen James, winner of the 2009-10 school table-tennis championships.

This is a tremendous achievement which is the result of years of training and three days of intensive examinations and assessment by a panel. Both girls are also part of the three person team which holds the Irish National Kata Champion and WSKF National Kata Champion titles.
