Skiing and snowboarding in New Hampshire
During the Easter holidays, 53 pupils from Forms 4,5,6 went to New Hampshire and Boston. After a long day travelling we arrived in New Hampshire to find very little snow and we were all quite worried. Thankfully, during our second night there was a huge snowfall which provided enough snow for the rest of the holiday! Every day we went skiing/snowboarding and by the end of the holiday everyone had really improved their skills, with prizes awarded to Nicki Gregory, Dave Lee, Julie McRann, Sarah Reynolds, Cillian Suiter and Ian Thom. As well as snowboarding and skiing there was also shopping to be done in both North Conway and Boston and most of the girls, including the teachers, took full advantage of this. Everyone has an absolutely brilliant holiday and, on behalf of everybody on the trip, I would like to thank Ms Quinn for organising it and Mr Davies, Mr Quinn, Mr D. Miller and Mr Dolan for supervising it. Sarah Reynolds (6) SnowboardingOur first two days were spent at Loon Mt. but due to rain conditions were icy. On the third day we went to Bretton Woods where the snow was good and everyone's boarding improved. Most evenings were spent in the pool with trips to a disco bowling alley, cinema and an outlet mall as well. Many thanks to the teachers for such a splendid trip. Nicola Gregory and Christine Boyle Summer concertThe Music Department is pleased to present a concert on Tuesday 11 May at 7.30 p.m. in the Music Centre. If you would like to attend the concert, please telephone the office to reserve a seat, before Friday 7 May. Please note that the concert was booked out last year and entrance on the night will not be possible. Parents, pupils and staff are welcome to attend. Fashion Show
Being one of the biggest events of the year and raising money for Cancer Research were just two of the reasons why the Fashion Show was such a huge success. After almost a year of preparation and after school rehearsals the night of the show finally arrived. The show resounded success despite a few hiccups (Thank you Manus). Most of the outfits modelled on the night were made by students out of recycled materials such as newspaper, plastic bags, bubble wrap, wellies, bottles, bottle caps, dish cloths and plenty of string glue and glitter. Prizes were awarded to the best designs for both senior and junior students. First prize in the senior section was awarded to Jill Harding for her J-Cloth Dress, modelled by Ruth Borland. Katie Hamilton and Averil Blakely came a close second and third with their funky flower like creations and wellies to boot! The winner of the junior section was Andrew Howell and Harry Ward with their incredible Newspaper Trousers and Sack Top, modelled by Romano. Elizabeth Surgeon came in second place with her Dotty Dress and in third place was Sinead Nolan’s Green Fairy skirt modelled by Rochelle Barrett. There were thirty-nine student entries and all deserve congratulations. In all the show raised close to 2000 Euro. Well done to everybody involved. A recording of the show, by Dylan Murphy and his crew, is now on sale. DVD’s cost 15 Euro and Videos are 10Euro. To order your copy please contact Ms. Galligan or Ms. Fahey. (Photo over page) Note - Ruth Borland's article has been submitted to The Erasmian due to lack of space here. Carl McHugh France trip 2004
Early on the morning of Saturday 3 April, a group of 44 students and 5 teachers arrived at Beauvais Airport, tired but excited. We were bundled straight into our coach for some sightseeing. We headed to the town of Bayeaux, where we saw the famous tapestry. Then it was off to our local mall where we were treated to the delicacy that was Flunch restaurant, which became in a way, our home for the duration of our stay. We then had some free time to wander about the mall, shopping or rather bizarrely, petting some baby farm animals. Having had a long day we drove to our hotel for some well needed sleep. On Sunday, we piled into our coach and settled in for a long drive to the Normandy Beaches. There we saw Sword, Juno and Gold beaches, the Musée de Debarquement at Arromanches, the Longue sur Mer battery, Colleville cemetery and Omaha beach of Saving Private Ryan. After that it was off to Ste Mare d’Eglise. We had some free time which some of the more brave among us (AND Mr. Giles!) went for a swim. Then it was time for the drive back, at the end of which we thankfully still managed to fit in time for some Flunch. After our delicious dinner we played a few games in a nearby bowling alley before heading back to our hotel. On Monday, we were off to Paris, where we would stay in our second hotel. As soon as we arrived in the city of Paris we were taken on a sightseeing trip from the comfort of our own coach! Afterwards we had an hour or two of free time which most of us spent doing what you can do best in Paris — shopping! Once we had all regrouped, it was time for the Louvre Museum of Art where we were lucky enough to see the infamous Mona Lisa. All of that had made us hungry, so it was time for some delicious Parisian cuisine... Flunch! Full from our Flunching it was time for a ‘Bateaux Mouche’ trip down the river Seine, which allowed us to see Paris from a completely different perspective. On Tuesday, it was the day most of us had been waiting for, the day we went to Disneyland Paris. We spent the day soaking up the Disney atmosphere and enjoying the rides, well, most of us enjoyed them, Ms. Missen! All the excitement had left us all starving, so we were all overjoyed to hear that that night we were the lucky recipients of double, yes, DOUBLE vouchers for Flunch. A walking tour of Montmarte and a visit to Sacre Coeur after our dinner tired us out, and it was back to the hotel. Wednesday was our last day in Paris, so we spent it the only way conceivable, shopping, along with a short trip to see La Defense, the modern skyscraper business district. Then, sadly, it was time for us to start on our long journey for the airport, where Rory learned that it was safer NOT to try and catch up on some sleep be may have missed! All of us would like to thank Mr. Wright. Ms. O’Sullivan, Ms. Missen, Ms. Hearne and Mr. Giles for an unforgettable holiday.
