Junior A cup final
We were anxious but determined to bring
the Junior A cup back to The High School. After an exciting game against
St Andrew's in the semis, we knew we were capable of winning. Just
before the match was about to start, an unfortunate event occurred …..
the umpire split her head open. This delayed the match by a half an
hour, which added to our nerves. We kept focused during the warm up. We
started strong and were unlucky not to convert one of the 3 short
corners we were awarded. Alex made some breaks but our defence of
Debbie, Una, Eva and Maolíosa held strong.
Early in the 2nd half, the Alex forwards made a quick break and managed
to score, despite the efforts of our goalie Eve Roseingrave. We remained
determined and we put Alex under great pressure - even having a goal
disallowed. Although we were in the Alex 25 for the remainder of the
match, we couldn’t score. The game ended 1-0 to Alex. We were very
disappointed but the great strength of our team was shown when Ali Meeke
received ‘player of the match’ and Aimee Jones O’Connor won goal scorer
of the competition. Well done!!
On behalf of the team, I’d like to thank Ms S. Jones for all the work
and effort she put in during the season, and all the supporters who came
to the match. We really appreciate it. Thank you!! Eva Nugent
