Broad, motivating curriculum for the 21st
century
For many years The High School has recognised the importance of both width and
depth of curricular provision in meeting the needs of pupils from a wide variety of
backgrounds, and in preparing them to meet the challenges of our modern world.
The six year educational programme of the school comprises a Junior Cycle of three years duration leading to the Junior
Certificate Examination, and a three year Senior Cycle
consisting of a Transition Year and the two year course
leading to the Leaving Certificate Examination. All pupils undertake the Transition Year.
Also very important is the wide range of extra-curricular sports and clubs
provided by the school, which can be viewed on our activities
page.

During the Junior Cycle, the range of subjects available is

where required. At the end of third year, all pupils sit the Junior Certificate
Examination of the Department of Education, usually in eight subjects. For more

Transition Year
All pupils follow school-designed courses in core subjects,
have opportunities to commence new subjects which may later be taken to Leaving
Certificate level, develop computer keyboarding and application skills, and gain
experience of the world of work through periods of work experience. In addition, a wide
range of short courses allows pupils to develop foundation skills in areas as diverse as
pottery and judo, drama and woodwork. The Transition Year is organised by a special team
of teachers which includes the Transition Year Co-ordinator and the Guidance Counsellor.
