The Guidance Department provides a comprehensive support programme for all our students. We assist students as they transfer from primary school and support them throughout their secondary education. The Guidance Counsellors role involves counselling, providing information, educational guidance, career guidance, individual appointments and providing for the personal, educational and social development of our students. The Guidance Team works in conjunction with the Pastoral Care Teams of Year Heads and Form Teachers and we liaise closely with the Senior Management Team of the school. Further information on the Guidance Department is contained in the Pastoral section of the website.
The Career Guidance Class programme is as follows:
The Career Guidance module provides students with the following:
● career interest inventories
● guidance on subject choices
● information on matriculation requirements
● information on progression to third level
● an introduction to the world of work
● occasional speakers
In fifth year the careers classes guide students in their exploration of themselves, their interests and the world of work.Exercises in class focus on career exploration including researching and presenting a career project. Students also prepare for and experience a mock interview in a career area of interest. All the major Universities and Institutes of Technology give presentations to the year group.
Sixth year students have a career guidance module which facilitates preparation for their examinations and which guides and assists them in their CAO, UCAS and other college application procedures. All sixth year students have two career guidance appointments in the first term with additional appointments as required.
